Andra (“Annie”) Martinez began her role in late October as the new Vice President for Development and Membership at the Indiana Historical Society [set to re-open this March]. An Indiana State University graduate, Martinez has 15 years of experience as a professional fundraiser, including her most recent role as Director of Development for Indianapolis-based Music for All, one of the largest national music education organizations that support active music-making programs such as Bands of America (BOA) and Orchestra America. Aside from the Arts, Martinez has a well-developed fundraising career including the education sector, where she had leadership roles at Florida Atlantic University in Port St. Lucie, Florida, Purdue University, the Wabash Center in Lafayette, and Indiana Business College. “We are so excited to have Andra on board as we prepare for the next phase of our evolution here at the IHS,” said John A. Herbst, president and CEO of the Indiana Historical Society. “Her proven track record of successful fundraising in a variety of environments, in addition to her enthusiasm for our mission, makes her a great fit for our organization.” Martinez brings more than her philanthropic wisdom and her refreshing “keep it real” personality to the IHS, though. Her various roles in development have occasionally included the oversight of marketing which is a valuable asset for most CEOs, especially those that really depend on “big picture” team members. It’s an unwritten truth that those responsible for securing the funding aren’t always understanding of those that need to spend it. Fortunately for Martinez, she is surrounded by many other big picture team members that will undoubtedly become her new extended family.
